A Bit About Mike...

After a session with Mike, you discover that he really is the kind of physio you are happy to travel long distances to see. Patients have said that he brings a combination of intellectual curiosity, technical understanding and the knack of just finding issues intuitively.  He finds tremendous joy in delving deeper into a richer understanding of human movement and biomechanics, allowing him to quickly peel back the layers and find the root cause rather than simply managing symptoms. Through his experiences working within performance sports teams, Mike believes that clear communication is key to building trust. If patients understand what is causing their particular issue and feel more invested in their own role in rehabilitation they are more to likely to achieve long-term resilience from future injury or improve performance. In this way, he is as passionate about managing complex or chronic conditions, as he is working with elite athletes.

Mike brings extensive manual therapy skills to his clinical practice. He is trained in fascial release techniques,  joint manipulation, acupuncture and brings a combination of these techniques to each session. In 2013 he discovered Neuro-kinetic Therapy (NKT), building his competence through hundreds of hours of study, to become a ‘Master' clinician. NKT looks at how the brain controls patterns of movement throughout the body which become disrupted by pain, then uses specific exercises to re-programme the muscles. It’s clear that mastering this unique approach, alongside his toolkit of traditional manual therapy skills has had a significant impact on the successful clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Mikes life outside of physio...

Mike runs the clinic alongside his wife, Rebecca who is also a physiotherapist and the Practice Manager. They have two teenage sons. Outside work you will find Mike playing the guitar, on the Padel court or camping with family & friends.

Before pursuing physiotherapy, Mike was a Commissioned Officer in the Royal Air Force. It was part way through his Navigator training in 1992 when a cruciate knee ligament injury forced him to reconsider his career options. It was through his rehabilitation that he saw physiotherapy as his chosen career path.
